There have, over the years been many great female runners at Surfers though they are often not as appreciated as they might be.

In 2015 the race was deprived of two previous winners, Hanlie Botha, who is also a Surfers ambassador and Myrette Filmalter who has gone head to head with Botha in the past. Both women were pregnant.

This year Botha is sure to be back while Filmalter has indicated that she would like to receive an invite – she lives in Pretoria.

Last years winner was Yolande MacLean of Born 2 Run in Johannesburg’and she will not be running due to her selection to the Central Gauteng marathon team who will be in East London a week later to compete in the SA Marathon Championships.

2016 is the year of the Olympics and as far as can be ascertained only one Olympian has run Surfers and that was Colleen de Reuck (nee Lindeque) She won the race whilst still a student at the then UPE.

De Reuck represented SA twice at the Olympics and the USA once.

Who will next emerge?
